Economy Heater 67

Post by 3 Speed »

New thread:

Does anyone here have a 67 with the "economy heater." After all our back and forth trying to make a simple ducti question from our friend more complicated, it seems to me that a 67 with an economy heater (1) had one heater control knob to the left of the choke and (2) had no knobs under the radio (or radio delete plate).

Were there chrome plates instead of the three knobs, or was there some other kind of delete plate?

Would love to see an original with this set-up.

He has all the hole's for a deluxe set up..... so how many cable attachments do you have on the actual heater box I just went through a 67f100 replacing the heater box and correct bezal/cable set up. I now have to pull it and replace heater core I would be more than happy to take detailed pic's of what goes where and yes the choke cable belongs over underneith the instrument panel67 F101 Custom Cab longbed, 352 V8, 3 speed manual

Keith has handled this already in his "sheetmetal interchange" tutotial:

"'67 cabs with a deluxe heater use push/pull cables for heater controls vs. the slider controls of the '68-'72. '67 cabs with the economy heater simply have one fan switch below the instrument panel, with no controls at all below the radio. "

Anybody got one?

I saw a 1967 at the F100 supernationals a few years ago with the economy heater, there was NOTHING below the radio. No holes at all. I believe it had a lever under the glovebox to switch between heat and defrost, and a fan switch under the instrument panel. Hot/cold was controlled manually by a valve under the hood.

Here's a pic of a 1967 dash with the economy heater, truck was listed on ebay. Note the 3 knobs to the right of the column for fan, choke & lighter, and no holes under the radio. You can also see the lever hanging down under the dash to switch between heat and defrost.

My '67 has the economy heater. It has a knob on the dash that controls it. You can pull the knob out (a cable is part of the assy) that goes to the valve in the heater line under the hood to control the flow of coolant through the heater core. There are no holes below the radio. To change from defrost to heat you have to reach under the dash and manually flip the blend door on the heater plenum box.

SVT522, welcome! Until someone says otherwise, I declare you as the owner of the rarest bump of all!

Hence why all of us who own the "newer" trucks have the same writing down there on our plenums!
I'd seen the writing there way...too many times crawling under the dash-wondering why the heck they put it there! :hmm:
I still had the same "action" required for the first few years I owned my bump! It needed a new set of controls-which I later got. But had to reach down and manually turn the damper rod by hand for a few years to go from defrost to heat. :D

Here are the valves used with the economy heater. There was no in cab control for hot/cold, you had to open the hood and adjust the valve manually. One screwed onto the intake OR one was installed inline with the heater hose. I don't know why there were two styles, maybe the 352 got one and the 240/300 got the other?

I guess old age is getting to me. I just went and looked and the switch does have a cable...but its not to control coolant flow! You do have to manually switch it from defrost to heat with your hand though!

I went to the Supernationals in Pigeon Forge this year, there was one 1967 with the economy heater there. Notice that the owner painted the letters on the heater box white.

Erick, that is beautiful. Clean, simple.

Wonder how much an optional radio cost a standard-cab buyer back in 67. Will have to look it up -- there is an options price sheet on the site somewhere.

Notice that truck is an automatic as well. Seems strange to order automatic and radio but only the economy heater.
