Heater Box Question
I spent last weekend replacing all of the hoses in the cooling system, plus the heater hoses. Well...yesterday the only thing I over looked failed and it was the heater core. I've taken the heater box out and decided since it's out, I'm going to clean it up, replace any broken parts and paint. After I disassembled the box, I noticed there is/was foam covering the flaps or doors inside of it. The foam is very thin and crumbles. It appears to be what seals the vents when they are shut. I would like to replace it. Is there a replacement part available? Is it just easier to cut a piece of foam and glue it in there and if so, how thick is it originally? Just wondering what others have done.

Re: Heater Box Question
Robroy's is a good thread about how to do it all in detail. I did mine too but the thread about it got deleted when the site started having problems. The only difference I did from Robroy is I used the foam padding sold at walmart that is for lining cupboards. It seems like good foam and only cost about $2 a roll. The roll is large enough to do a couple of heater jobs and still have enough to do several cupboards as well.

Re: Heater Box Question
I think I do have some of that cupboard liner laying around somewhere. I can't help but wonder how long it would take my wife to notice if the liner in one of the cupboards was missing?
On that Robroy thread, it gives a pretty good idea of what it looked like. There was a lot more left of his than mine. It sorta looked like the foam filter that covers the paper filter on my shop vac. Something that compresses easy. I guess just walk around Home Depot and look for something that looks similar is the solution. If not, that cupboard liner sounds like a good idea. It's only there to seal it when it's shut, right?

Re: Heater Box Question
You can always order a heater re-seal kit from one of the parts houses....

Re: Heater Box Question
Thanks Fireguy, I found some of that in my garage. I'm going to go that route because I want to at least get the cooling system finished that I started during the weekend. Redoing the heater takes me off course and just putting the new heater core in is great. I can refurbish it when I do the interior.
To be honest, I really don't remember when the last time was that I actually used the heater in my vehicle.
