Factory A/C pictures
Okay from what I've looked at they did sell factory A/C as an option because there is picture of the control on here in the tech articles. so was the factory A/C still a under the dash unit even though the controls were in the dash?

Re: Factory A/C pictures
Been on here for many years-and never seen any other type. It would have to had incorporated the same heater blower motor into an evaporator housing for integral dash vents-never seen one. Have also seen a lot of guys post "original under dash mount air" through the years though. Maybe someone else can chime in here that knows a little more though.
I'd saved the integral plenum, (coil/blower housing) from my 79' for many years, (in hopes of trying to mount it under the dash). Priorities have a way of changing plans in a heartbeat...

Here's a pretty good selection of the various factory and dealer installed add-on A/C installations http://www.fordification.com/tech/factory-AC.htm There are a number of aftermarket installs available. Here's the one I've been scoping out, it's a repop of the original factory install http://www.nostalgicairparts.com/air-co ... em-293.php

Re: Factory A/C pictures
The original FACTORY installed unit did indeed have the AC / heater controls in the dash. There is no room for vents through the dash, thus the original factory unit only had two front registers.
Any unit with self-contained controls is dealer installed.
I've had my factory unit in my truck for over 10 years and it works great. The cab is no very big so it doesn't take much to cool it down

WOW you GUYS are the best. I saw the tech articles after I posted this. I juat thought MAYBE there was a chance that there was one that had the vents in the dash would be perfect I saw the factory controls and I thought if they made factory control with A/C maybe that have factory vents to NOT.. I guess the under the dash will have to do BUT IT'S SO BULKY and not something you would open the door and say look at my huge, bulky, and an eye sore of a under the dash unit. BUT i can't complain to much if it works then I guess it will have to do but this is going to be one of those R12 to R134a conversion I haven't been to impressed by the output there nothing like R12. but like I said it just so ugly and takes up foot space..

I have also seen one of the aftermarkets, (sorry can't remember which one) that had vents you installed into the dash. They were round shaped and small in diameter with round ducted hoses routed behind the dash. Maybe look at these guys:

I've been althrough the underdash of our trucks and I cannot for the life of me, see where they could go. It's packed under there! They would be so small that I would question how effective they would be. JMO
