Heater core help

Post by tidrow55 »

I need some help with replacing my heater core in my 71 Ford F100. It has factory air. If you guys could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. I'm sure there's a post somewhere but I just can't seem to find it.

I'm sure it's not what you want to hear but no one seems to have them is what most guys have found the past few years, (the AC type heater core). Everybody and their Brother sells the non AC heater core. What most guys are doing now is to take the core to a radiator shop and have a new one built using the original tank ends. You might try Green Sales as a last stop:

Yeah, unfortunatety you do have to drop the whole unit from under the dash.
I had to do one about 10 years ago and it was a real pain, but worth it in the end.
Good Luck!

I thought I made a post on this but couldn't find it. The hardest part of removing the under dash AC unit will be disconnecting the AC lines. You will have to take out the glove box insert and then you will have access to the top of the AC box, wires, cables, and two AC lines. To drop the unit there are three bolts that go through the firewall and two under the dash. One is to the far left, the other is far right. Once you get all the bolts out it will take some work to get it down and remove the heater hoses and AC drain hose.

Two things I want to emphasize that I almost forgot. If you system is charged, make sure you get it evacuated before you work on it. Second, be very careful with the fresh air rubber tube that is on the far right side of the HVAC box. There are no replacements made for them.
