gas pedal
Only thing keeping from taking my bumpside for a test drive is a problem with the gas pedal.I guess the best way to put it is it won't come back up to "home position".Push it 1/2 way to floor and that's where it stays.Replaced the throttle return spring under the hood, oiled the linkage, and made sure none of it is binding.Anybody have an idea what is causing this?I'm really wanting to test drive this $300 jewel to see if the trans is toast or not.

Check the trapeze between the carb and firewall.

Re: gas pedal
Double check that the throttle return spring is set up correct because there is no reason for it not to go Back to the home position.

bluef250,I have already checked that. It's wierd as everything seems to be nice and free when unhooked from one another.Assembled and it won't return.Really bumming me out

Re: gas pedal
Check the cast pivot point that has three screws in it on the inside of the cab. It is usually covered by the rubber floor mat. They break and have a negative impact on how the gas pedal behaves.

Re: gas pedal
There is a spring that returns the pedal itself to an idle position. But as stated above that alone would not be the only issue. I'd also check the carburetor return spring:

Re: gas pedal
one more odd thing you may want to check is to see if the linkage that bolts to the intake is broken. I had the same problem this weekend and my linkage was broken and would rotate not letting the pedal return.

Re: gas pedal
Well,I found the problem....me
First off just to let ya know I am no mechanic what so ever.I did rebuild the carb over the summer. When I put it back on I put a linkage in the wrong spot. Not sure what the linkage is but it runs from the left side of the throttle on the carb to the trans.I put it on where the throttle return spring goes.Wrong spot.Figured this out after staring under the hood fer a bit this afternoon. Here's a pic of what I am talking about.

It was binding up the throttle.Felt like a total idiot but atleast the gas pedal works now
Anyhow thanks for the ideas on what to look for.I appreciate it even tho I was the problem all along.

Re: gas pedal
It's part no. 9760. It should be behind the gas pedal.halfpint33 wrote:Thanks for the info guys.I will check all that and let ya know how it goes.Jeff, first thanks for the diagram.Second you said a spring is on the pedal to bring it back to the idle position.Where would that be at?Didnt see one on the pic you posted nor is there one on my truck that I can see.

Re: gas pedal
That rod is the kick down rod for your passing gear. When you gas it the trans will shift down to lower gear with out having to manually shift to 2nd.halfpint33 wrote:Well,I found the problem....meFirst off just to let ya know I am no mechanic what so ever.I did rebuild the carb over the summer.
