Turn Signal Lever Discovery...

Post by cole71 »

I thought I might share with everyone on here something I discovered the other day.

In my attempts to find an all chrome turn signal lever I realized that an all chrome one is not currently reproduced and neither is the shift lever. Just the turn signal lever with the black knob is all I've been able to find.

I had an idea to try a turn signal lever from another car or truck. My father has a couple of Mercury Cougars and I took off the lever off of one of his parts cars. I turned out to be a perfect match length, thread, etc...

Since a Cougar shares a few similar pieces with Mustangs I figured one could order a lever for a Mustang. Also, I'm told that there are two different length levers for a mustang (long and short, the long pictured) so if someone is using a smaller aftermarket steering wheel then they might want to consider the shorter lever. Heres the pic:

The original from my truck is on the top the one from the Cougar is below.

I believe I am mistaken on the lengths I mentioned earlier in the post. You can choose two different lengths on the earlier levers, but on the 67-73 it is one length 7 5/8"

They do, but they have the black knob unlike the ones that came in 70-72's which were all chrome.

By the way ordered one of the mustang levers today from NPD got the 5 1/2" one it was $10.95. I found one cheaper at mustangs unlimited, but I needed some of that paint for the needles of my gauges so I paid a little more from NPD.
