67 Heater control valve???

Post by Ks Highboy »

I have a 67 with the economy heater. When I bought the truck in 93 it never had a valve of any kind to control the water flow to the heater core. I have run the truck this way since I bought it. Problem is, I have blown 3 heater cores. Was there a valve on the 67's that controlled water flow to the heater core or did it just run through the heater core all the time?

AFAIK the heater valve was put on all our truck models, (an indicator of it would be the cable under the hood that hooks to it). They do erode and get stuck so chances are the PO removed it by simply bypassing due to availability? Be advised there were also two different valves, and i believe the 67 might have had the "different" one? :hmm: There was some discussion here recently about the two different types and I believe the poster had the 67. Maybe someone with a 67 will chime in here.

looks like there is a valve that you have to turn by hand under the hood. I know there is a cable that comes from the control knob inside the cab but it controls a flap on the heater box under the dash. Nothin exits the cab. Looks like a guy could use a control valve with a cable like on the 69 and just run an extra knob on the dash to push/pull.

You could probably rig up something with a lawn mower control cable.

Every auto parts stores carries a universal choke cable, (most kmarts used to have them years ago) if you have to add one. I believe the stock cable assembly on our truck has a loop bent at the end to attach to the valve assembly:
