What is the Best Way to Install a New Seat?

Post by Subzero »

The time has come for me to put in the 1994 F150 bench seat into my truck. I wanted to know the best and easiest way of doing so. Here is an example of the seat I have http://www.fordification.com/images/seats/94f150-02.JPG . Its just a different color ( tan).
If I unbolt the 4 bolts on the floor holding the entire seat in the 68' will my entire 1994 seat mounts bolt right in? Or is it more complicated than that?
The upholstery shop is doughtful that the 1994 seat will fit and I really need this new seat to go in the truck and fast so it can go to the upholstery shop. I guess if theres a will there is a way.

I read that but I don't really understand what it means by drill out threads on the seat frame. So they're are studs on the bottomof the ooriginal seat that need to go into the tracks or something? I'm doing the seat swap tomorrow so I have a day to figure out what exactly I need to do. What tools are required to do this besides the normal sockets and screwdrivers and the like?

I put a seat out of a 94 xlt in my 72 and all I did was unbolt the seat tracks off the orignal seat an bolted them to the 94 seat.

By the seat tracks you mean the metal runners on the bottom of theseat that slide back and forth with the adjustment lever?

This is how I plan to do the swap. Please let me know if I'm making a mistake.

1. Remove entire seat and frame from 1968 truck
2. Remove 1994 seat from its frame
4. Put 1994 seat on 1968 seat frame ( still working on how I should do this)

That's how i did it. There was 2 bolts on each side that hold the frames to the bottom of the seat just unbolt the 68 frames and but them on the 94 seat and it should drop right in.

I'm trying to slide the tracks out but they're are some stopers that keep the seat from going off the tracks. How do I get the slider to go over these?

Are you trying to remove the lower tracks by sliding them off or have you already removed the four bolts holding them on (2 per side) to the seat frame and they still won't come off?
I installed a bench seat from a 94 a couple months ago and I removed the bolts from the floor holding the seat down, removed the seat, unbolted the lower sliding tracks from the seat frame, removed the sliding tracks from the new seat, and installed the tracks from the old seat to the new seat. The holes should line up perfectly between the old tracks you're installing and the new seat. If I remember correctly I drilled out the threaded holes in the new seat frame so I could use the hardware from the old seat/sliding track assembly.

I trashed the track sliding out idea and did exactly what you did. It fits perfect now and is ready to go to the upholstery shop. :) Thanks for the help

Good to hear, be sure to post some pics when it's back from the the upholstery shop. I put the exact seat in my truck that you have but I haven't thought about how I would recover it yet.

The original seat in my truck looks the same as this truck here has http://www.gatewayclassiccars.com/displ ... cation=LOU# . So to keep the car looking original as possible I'm having the upholstery shop do the seat in all black vynil to be close as possible to the original. The seams and ways the original was made will also be replicated in the new seat. The only difference will be the original has some sort of pattern on the place you sit and now it will be either a dark grey or all black. The original seat in in very very good condition with only a few small rips on the side of the seat from some of the internal metal wires poking through. Now it has a new life as a couch in the house so if I ever want to swap it back out I can do as I want. I actually think the old seat is more comfy but Im sure I'll warm up to the new seat soon enough. The 1994 seat seems to set a little lower than the other which makes driving better for a tall person like me.
