I f you do not want to change out the dizzy. You can go Pertronix. I've seen them on e-bay.

I think Crazy Larry used the Pertronix kit.You may want to check with him or anyone else that has done this swap.

This is something I've been thinking about doing as well.
Since I'll have the dizzy out for an engine overhaul, and don't mind replacing the unit, what do you recommend for a system?

I like MSD myself, but then again I haven't tried anything else. I bought a complete used MSD 6al for about $125. Came with 3 step box and a bunch of other stuff I didn't need but it worked great. I plan to buy a newer MSD system when my truck is done. I have had no complaints.

I've heard the Ignitor 2 is a big step forward in reliability.

Crane has the XRi for Ford V-8s, I liked mine, but some say the new advance plate binds in them, so YMMV.

Hard to beat an MSD, but its big money compared to a sub 100.00 conversion.

There is always the duraspark swap as well.
