steering column color

Post by bjde0b »

What color do I need to do the column.

Looking at the truck with 300 miles on it, the column appears to be black. This is also supported by my column it appeard to have black on the bottom. Is the collar then the color of the truck or is it also black, it is hard to tell in the pictures.

mine was black in my ol truck. i think usually they are the same color as dash pad and armrests. whatever color it is the whole column other than the shifter and turn signal arm is same color. black was pretty common. also, steering wheel will be same color so if it has orig wheel go ny its color. hope this helps.

It's been my experience that if the truck was black, blue, green or red, the dashpad and steering column were that color. All other truck colors had a black dashpad and column. However, my '67 was originally white, and it did have a white 3-spd column...the only white columns I've ever seen have been on '67s and '68s.

maybe i wont swear to my info. never seen an untouched truck! i had white ranger with red seat carpet and dashpad and column and str wheel. may have kinda depended on the origin of the truck maybe? kinda be cool to know though. my ol 71 custom had green arm rests seat column and str wheel but black vinyl floor and dash pad.

the collar is the same colour as the column (unless its been replaced with some random j-yard piece along the way)
every unmolested truck i've had that had blue (3) ,green (1),red (3) or black (2) interiors had steering columns that matched the body colour regardless of the trim level ,the orange one and the puke yellow one currently on my truck were black ...
can't tell about white trucks because i've never had one with an un-hacked interior...yet..
- still got my first first car 20+yrs later : 69 f100 sorta kinda pretending its a Mercury M100 w/a 70 f350 sport custom cab (factory buckets) 67 grille with 69 ranger cooneyes 68 merc box and hood, some supercool fiberglass fenders i scored way back when, 76 f150 disc brake frontend..currently running a 90 5.0HO 4bbl/c4 auto & 3.50 posi...originally a 360/c6 f100 Ranger with dealer added towpack (incl. kelsey hays trailer brake),boxside toolbox, behind the seat stowage & belly tank...only original parts left on 'er are the frame, rear end, rear springs, and rear bumper...

know the white ranger and the 71 were factory. not sure on the ol 72 but i think it is too. guess it kinda depends. i say do whatever suits you cause all our stories kinda prove it wasnt set in stone and noone could be sure of orig color unless they saw truck new. so we cant really prove you wrong despite the color!!

Good discussion. I am going to go with black column and wheel except for the bezel at the base which I will match red to the interior.

My 69 F-250 Custom Cab was ordered from Ford by my Father so I've known this truck since it was delivered to the dealer. The exterior color is Wimbledon White; white dash & doors; red arm rests, red dash pad; red floor mats; red steering wheel / column; parchment headliner and visors. The entire steering column and all attaching parts were color keyed.

My 67 Custom Cab: Pebble Beige exterior, black dash pad but beige arm rests, "medium beige" interior color for seat pattern, column and wheel same color as dash metal, door metal -- all the same color as the outside.
