Front and Rear Window Sealant?

Post by pincheweddo »

I have been searching for some kind of understanding of what needs to be used for front and rear window gasket sealant and how / where / when it is applied. Anybody got any reading material on this or have some ideas as to what to use on a 1967?

You do not need any sealant on either the front or rear window. The way the rubber is formed and the amount of pressure that is created when the window is seated properly makes for a water tight seal. Just put your windows in using some soapy water and the rope method and you will be good to go.

I have put in several windshields and rear windows and never had a single leak in these trucks.

Thats what I was kinda thinking but then the front window I took out had an pliable grey goop that was in the outer window lip. Looking at the donor truck I have it appears to not have anything but it obviously isn't sealed well. Just trying to make double dog sure so I don't run in to problems down the road.

Both of my trucks had the goop under the front window rubber as well, but it is not needed. CNM67's front window also had the goop but is sealed up tight once we cleaned it all up and installed the window with new rubber. No new sealant and no leaks...

Got it in and it does fit tight all the way around. If it does become a problem I can see how one could easily put some sealant in it.
